Day 37 - Travel to Hoi An

Our cruise docked at 10.00am so after some more viewing of the crazy landscape and some breakfast (dry toast for Steve who was feeling better today thankfully) we were on the road again. Our guide Phong and Mr Hung our driver showed us some of the local scenery including field after field of rice (Vietnam is one of the world's major rice producers), some more water buffalo and an obligatory stop at a jumbo craft store (we're sure they must get a commission).

Then it was off to Hanoi airport for a short and uneventful flight down to Danang in central Vietnam. Once again Wild Frontiers were on the ball and new guide (Quy - pronounced "Wee") and driver were waiting for us with our name sign at the airport. A 45min drive later we were safely into our hotel (the Anantara) right on the river in Hoi An.

But more on that tomorrow:)

Fun Fact: Quy informed us there are still many differences between north and south Vietnam including:

  • the food is sweeter in the south

  • the people are friendlier (we will see)

  • life philosophy is a bit more laid back
