Day 19 - The Blue Mountains and The Australian Bush!

Today we had a fabulous private tour that started with a trip to an Australian animal preserve. Honestly, from the parking lot we thought it was going to be a bit hokey, but it turned out that we really loved it as we were able to see and get quite close to lots of local fauna such as koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, wombats, Tasmanian devils and dingos, just to name a few. There were also many gorgeous birds!

Our tour guide, Scott, then took us to our first stop in the Australian bush where we enjoyed a quick breakfast tea. We then ventured up the road and embarked on an hour hike into the Blue Mountains National Park which has the second biggest canyon in the world (next to the Grand Canyon). The hike took us to Wentworth Falls and provided us many gorgeous vistas along the way.

After a nice lunch at the park cafe, (duck salad, hummingbird cake and carrot cake), we went on to several more stops with breath taking views, including "The Three Sisters" (see photo below with the 3 columns).

Because we were a bit ahead of schedule, Scott offered to take us to an additional view of the valley. It turned out to be my favorite spot as there was nobody else there and the views were expansive. Scott told us that this entire valley was part of the wildfires that Australia experienced just a few years ago. All of the green that you can see is Eucalyptus which rejuvenates extremely quickly. It was astonishing that this valley could be so lush and vibrant after all of the destruction not so long ago.

Day 19 was a huge hit!

Can't wait to hear how the humming bird cake tasted. How many birds does it take to make a cake?
